Countdown to the Inaugural Meeting October 8th / 12th (and enter your e-mail address at the bottom of the page if you haven’t already)

Hello Fellow Readers!

Looking forward to meeting you at the upcoming book club meetings! They are just around the corner! We will be reading The Jesuit Guide to Almost Everything by James Martin, SJ. We’ll focus on chapters 2, 4, 5, 7, 11, and 12.

Here are some of items of Jesuit-related interest:

The interview with the Pope

Three Minute Online Retreats from Loyola Press … these are nice; thanks Anne K. for pointing these out!

Loyola Press and Ignatius Press both have interesting feeds on Facebook. The “Ignatian Spirituality” feed has a nice synopsis on what we’re reading about … makes a great “elevator speech” on our current book:

Ignatian spirituality is a spirituality for everyday life. It insists that God is present in our world and active in our lives. It is a pathway to deeper prayer, good decisions guided by keen discernment, and an active life of service to others.

Lastly, starting this 34-week online retreat right now (actually last week, but I couldn’t figure out how to get this message to work) will make the topics synch perfectly with the liturgical calendar.

Happy Reading,

Karla

Brand New: A Book Club at St. Elizabeth Seton!

jesuit guideHello!

The SES Parish Book Club discusses one book per month and meets in the Conference Center, the one-story original building on the lower part of the campus, second Tuesdays at 7:00 pm and second Saturdays at 10:30 am.

Next meetings are October 8th and October 12th; come to whichever one fits your schedule. More info: call Karla @ 760-929-0609. Encourage others to enter their e-mail address at SESParishBookClub.org.

Crack open our first book selection, The Jesuit Guide to Almost Everything by James Martin, S.J. We’ll focus on chapters 2, 4, 5, 7, 11, and 12.

The Society of Jesus is a hot topic with our new Pope Francis, and the Jesuit founder St. Ignatius has a lot to say about how to bring Christ into our daily lives and decisions. And that’s what this book is about.

If you’ve ever wanted more ideas on how to pray and exercise your spirituality once you step outside the church walls, you will find something in this book — and you may want to share it with our non-Catholic friends in Christ and those who haven’t heard the Good News too.

One thing, this is not the shortest book in the world. Please read and come happy to discuss the chapters that call to you most right now.

Happy Reading!
